Why Choose Us
FAQ
When you do the training, is it focused on the type of immigration law that they will be practicing with my firm?
Our paralegals are all lawyers who graduated from law school in Colombia. Their legal education is a good starting point before they begin their training on U.S. immigration law. Once on our team, they receive a two-week training on immigration law, which will give them exposure to the different immigration agencies and policies. Then they are trained and have practice on affirmative applications and cover letters on topics such as naturalization, family-based petitions, VAWA, U and T visas, Special Immigrant Juvenile Status, asylum, and waivers. Thereafter, they are trained on defensive forms and table of contents on topics such as asylum, Cancellation of Removal, adjustment in court, waivers, bond, and various motions. We continue to update our team’s knowledge after the initial training by providing them with weekly continuing education and training with experienced immigration attorneys based in the United States.
Will the paralegal get training related to my areas of practice?
They receive a 90-hour training on general immigration and on humanitarian and affirmative immigration law, after that each customer provides them tailor made training, on a regular basis we check our training program to improve it. We also provide weekly updates to our team; these updates are designed to meet our customer’s needs.
What are the steps of your selection process?
Our selection process is done in three steps:
- Verification and background check of each candidate.
- Initial interview with each one to discuss their interests and skills.
- Interview with an immigration lawyer based in the United States, that includes a test of the candidate’s English fluency and interest in being a remote paralegal.
Does the paralegal work from home or from an office?
Our paralegals and receptionists work from our main offices in Cali and Medellin, Colombia. They have a supervisor and IT staff for support. If an issue arises with your paralegal or receptionist and they are late to work or not responsive during regular work hours, our managers and supervisors are always on site to assist you in real time.
Would the paralegal work in the same hours as my time zone or how does that work?
Our paralegals work from 8:00AM to 6:00PM COT (UTC -05:00), with a lunch break from noon until 1:30PM. Colombia does not observe daylight saving time, so please be aware this may affect certain firms in those states that do adjust their clocks.
We have customers from California to Virginia. On the East Coast, our clients love that we can help them since we are available before they typically open and often after they close. Our clients on the East Coast also share the same time zone several months out of the year. On the West Coast, our clients enjoy that we can begin a couple hours before them to have tasks prepared for them upon opening.
Does the paralegal have his/her own email/phone system? Or are they added to the law firms?
We provide our own email and phone system at no extra cost to your firm. Some customers require their assistants to use their current systems and provide access and licenses to their receptionists or paralegals. We are also happy to accommodate any requirements your firm may have in this field to fully integrate our paralegals and receptionists with your firm.
Phone Services: Each one of our paralegals is provided with a US local phone number from the city and state where the customer is located. That number can place and receives calls as any other US phone number and we can modify our Caller ID to show any phone number you want when we place a call. Each paralegal and receptionist has WhatsApp programmed with that same number and can receive SMS on that phone number.
E-mail: Each paralegal and receptionist has an e-mail provided by us but can have access to your firm’s email if you prefer.
Do you provide a computer and a workstation for the paralegals?
In our office, each paralegal is provided with a complete workstation to perform their job duties. Each one receives a laptop installed with Windows 10, Microsoft Office, Adobe PDF, Zoom, Teams, and Virtual Phone. The paralegal and receptionist can place calls from their desk phone or from their computers even outside the office if needed. Additional software requests can be accommodated, but your firm will be responsible for any licensing costs.
What training do you provide to the paralegals?
